第一類(lèi)：無(wú)規律變化

1. foot → feet ， goose → geese， tooth---teeth，child → children， ox → oxen， louse → lice， woman → women， man → men， mouse → mice

注意：與 man 和 woman構成的合成詞，其復數形式也是 -men 和-women。如： an Englishman，two Englishmen. 但German不是合成詞，故復數形式為Germans;Bowman是姓，其復數是the Bowmans。

第二類(lèi)：?jiǎn)螐蛿低�形：sheep, deer, fish, cattle, Chinese, Japanese，audience

li，jin，yuan，two li，three mu，four jin

但除人民幣元、角、分外，美元、英鎊、法郎等都有復數形式。如：a dollar, two dollars; a meter, two meters

第三類(lèi)：以o結尾的單詞。

A、有些以o結尾的外來(lái)詞或縮略詞的復數形式只加"S";

B、以元音字母加o結尾的單詞只加"s"

piano，photo，zero，radio，bamboo，tobacco，solo，cuckoo，dynamo，cameo，soprano.

如果以o結尾的名詞有生命力，則該詞匯一般加-es。如：

Hero，tomato，potato，Negro(黑人)[簡(jiǎn)記;黑人英雄吃西紅柿馬鈴薯。]

第四類(lèi)：以輔音加y結尾的名詞變y為i再加"es"，如：family--families ， city--cities

若y前面是元音字母只加"S"，如：key--keys boy--boys play--plays toy--toys

第五類(lèi)： 以f，fe結尾的名詞，變f，fe為v 加es，如：calf--calves， knife--knives

A.下列名詞直接加"S"

roof(房頂) reef(暗礁) chief(首領(lǐng)) cliff(懸崖) grief(悲痛) turf(草皮) belief(信仰) gulf(港灣) dwarf(侏儒) safe(保險箱) sheriff(長(cháng)官) tariff(關(guān)稅)

B. scarf(頭巾) whart(碼頭) staff(全體職員) handkerchief(手帕) hoof(蹄)既可直接加"s"，又可變f為v加es。

第六類(lèi)：復合名詞復數形式

1、中間沒(méi)有連字符的合成名詞在詞尾變復數;

bookshelf--bookshelves handful--handfuls

2、man和 woman構成的復合名詞，二者均變?yōu)閺蛿怠?/p>

Man servant--men servants woman teacher--women teachers

3、中間有連字符的合成詞，在主體詞(中心意義的詞)末尾變?yōu)閺蛿怠?/p>

Sister-in-law--sisters-in-law looker-on--lookers-on editor-in-chief--editors-in-chief

4、下列合成名詞在后一個(gè)詞上變化;

sit-in--sit-ins grown-up--grown-ups stand-by--stant-bys

touch-me-not--touch-me-nots go-between--go-betweens

第七類(lèi)：集體名詞，以單數形式出現，但實(shí)為復數

如： people police cattle 等本身就是復數，不能說(shuō) a people，a police，a cattle，但可以說(shuō)a person，a policeman，a head of cattle，the English，the British，the French，the Chinese，the Japanese，the Swiss 等名詞，表示國民總稱(chēng)時(shí)，作復數用。 #p#分頁(yè)標題#e#

如： The Chinese are industries and brave. 中國人民是勤勞勇敢的。

第八類(lèi)：以s結尾，仍為單數的名詞

a. maths，politics，physics等學(xué)科名詞，為不可數名詞，是單數。

b. news 是不可數名詞。

c. the United States，the United Nations 應視為單數。

The United Nations was organized in 1945. 聯(lián)合國是1945年組建起來(lái)的。

d. 以復數形式出現的書(shū)名，劇名，報紙，雜志名，也可視為單數。

"The Arabian Nights" is a very interesting story-book.
